Happy Holidays to Al!

Remember our holiday greeting from last year?   Yes!  Even you can advertise on the Chamber's marquee.  It's a steal at only $15/day per side  ($30/day for both sides.  Call the  Chamber office for more details).
And, EVERYONE sees the marquee......ask the office staff who got numerous, NUMEROUS calls asking "who is Al?"

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to Al and all the rest of you!

Time to elect Board of Directors

The Humboldt County Chamber of Commerce presents these nominees for the 2011-2012  Board of Directors.

If you are a member in good standing of the Humboldt County Chamber of Commerce, you will have received a ballot by mail.  Please consider carefully, and make your choice, mark your ballot, for five (5) persons for the board, and return it to the Chamber office by Monday, December 20th, 5:00pm.

Betty Lawrence

Betty Lawrence, an independent member, who works for the Humboldt County Planning Commission, says that her love of Humboldt County and her past experience on the chamber board make her the perfect choice for a director. She says she understands how important a strong chamber is for the business community and she knows the history of the Humboldt County Chamber, having served on the board intermittently from 1990 to the present, and feels that is an important factor. Her goals for the chamber are to see a rise in membership and to have a membership that is involved and strong.

Stephanie Wade

Stephanie Wade is the owner of Second Street Seasonals and is just finishing up four years on the chamber board. Wade has lived in Winnemucca all her life. She says she’s always enjoyed working with the public and being on the chamber board has allowed her one more way of being involved in the community. She feels it’s important to have the retail side of that community represented on the board and hopes to continue with some fresh ideas and new perspectives to the chamber board.

Theresa Mavity

Theresa Mavity is the owner and instructor of Dance Plus Studio. She, her husband Mike and their three children have made Winnemucca their home for the past 15 years. Mavity says she understands that not every chamber business is a retail storefront, and is looking forward to helping small home-based businesses find their voice in the chamber and to promote themselves to Humboldt County residents. Mavity has served 2 years on the Chamber Board and currently sits on the Humboldt County Planning Commsion. She feels her experience, including Grass Valley PTA, the United Methodist Church and the Humboldt County Cinderella Scholarship pageant, will help with implementing new ideas and bring excitement to the chamber board.

Alicia Davis Cramer

Alicia Davis Cramer grew up in Winnemucca and returned to the community after a 20 year hiatus to raise her children in Montana, Idaho, & Washington. Alicia and her husband Marty have 6 children and enjoy spending time with family.  Alicia has a B.S. in Business, is a Humboldt Hospice Volunteer, Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer, an active member in her church community and an Insurance Agent at Davis Insurance.  Alicia has extensive experience in the business world and values volunteer service with a history of community service ranging from Girl Scouts to Red Cross to FFA. Alicia has an enthusiastic vision of the potential of Winnemucca and Humboldt County and would welcome the opportunity to help the Humboldt County Chamber of Commerce guide the community into the future.

Ken Hladek

Marilyn and Ken Hladek have resided in the Winnemucca area for over six years, during which time they have entrenched themselves in the community.  Ken, although a retired engineer, teaches math courses at Great Basin College, currently serves on the Board of Directors of two non-profit organizations, and was an active member of three other boards here in Winnemucca.  Administering grants that support lower income people in the region gave him a real insight into specific needs within the community and helped inspire the formation of the Family Stability Council to help coordinate available support.   Recently accepting a position with Recology, he is now engaged in bringing an awareness of environmental stewardship to the region.  “I personally believe in first hand support of beneficial community efforts.”  As a member of the Chamber Board, his demonstrated involvement would continue with the enthusiasm shown on his other community endeavors.

Sherre Furrh

Sherre and Tim Furrh and their six children have lived in Winnemucca for the past 10 years. During that time she did not sit idle, Sherre jumped right into the community and began volunteering her time and services. Co-owner of the new wine bar, Bella Grazia, Sherre has also served on the committe for Relay for Life, is active with the Humboldt County Cinderella Program and is very involved in the Grass Valley Baptist Church. Sherre is also a supporter of the WDVS and Soroptimist of Winnemucca.

Sherre says, "Giving back to our community is important to me and my husband. Striving for a better Wmca is a passionate goal of mine and I believe that our little town will only continue to grow and be the place that we can all say we are proud of!" Making the Chamber more visible at community events would be high on the list of Sherre's goals if she is elected.
